How we carry out diagnostics & fault codes
Modern vehicles store diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in their engine control unit whenever a sensor or system reports a fault. A professional OBD-II scan tool reads those codes, but the real skill is interpreting them correctly — a P0300 random-misfire code could mean a worn spark plug, a failing coil, low compression, or a fuelling issue. We read the live sensor data alongside the codes to narrow down the root cause before any parts are ordered.
Common triggers for the engine management light include a failing lambda (oxygen) sensor, a faulty mass airflow sensor, a misfiring cylinder, a loose or perished fuel-filler cap (yes, really), a failing EGR valve, or issues with the DPF on diesel cars. Other warning lights — ABS, airbag, TPMS, oil pressure — are read by the same diagnostic process and are just as important to investigate promptly.
The advantage of mobile diagnostics is that we can come to you while the car still drives, read the codes in the environment where the fault occurred, and advise on whether the car is safe to keep using or needs immediate attention. We'll give you a clear report of what we found and, where we can carry out the repair on-site, we'll quote you there and then.

Can you clear the fault code once the repair is done?
Yes — once a fault is diagnosed and repaired we clear the code and verify the readiness monitors confirm the fix. The warning light should not return if the root cause has been resolved.
My car is driving fine but the engine light is on — is it urgent?
Not always, but it should always be investigated. Some faults are stored as 'pending' before they become serious; others relate to emissions systems that won't affect driveability but will cause an MOT failure. We'll tell you honestly what the code means and how urgent the repair is.
